‘To the Wonder’ Poster: Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery

To the right is the artwork for the Criterion Collection Blu-ray release of Terrence Malick‘s The Thin Red Line and below is the newly released poster for his upcoming To the Wonder starring Ben Affleck and Olga Kurylenko, which is set to hit theaters from Magnolia on April 12. Well, as you can see, whomever made this poster wasn’t unfamiliar with the Criterion art.

I caught To the Wonder at the Toronto Film Festival last year (read my review here) and didn’t dislike it as much as I wasn’t moved by its meditative nature to become invested enough to find my own inner meaning beyond the time it took for me to write my review.

The official synopsis describes it as a story of Marina (Kurylenko) and Neil (Affleck), who meet in France and move to Oklahoma to start a life together, where problems soon arise. While Marina makes the acquaintance of a priest and fellow exile (Javier Bardem), who is struggling with his vocation, Neil renews a relationship with a childhood sweetheart, Jane (Rachel McAdams). Bold and lyrical, the film is a moving, gorgeously shot exploration of love in its many forms.

Check out the new poster directly below as well as a clip from the film in which Affleck and Kurylenko’s characters visit the medieval site of Mont Saint-Michel, nicknamed “The Wonder of the Western World“, from which the film gets its title.
