Gary Oldman Leads Humans in ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’

Casting and now the story are beginning to come together on Fox’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes as Gary Oldman is the latest to join the cast, said to be playing a character named Dreyfus, leader of the human resistance after the apes have taken power.

Previously we learned the film will be set 15 years after the events of 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes and would focus on a group of human scientists struggling to survive alone in San Francisco, while Caesar (Andy Serkis) attempts to maintain dominance over the newly formed ape kingdom. Oldman joins previously cast Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road) as fellow members of the human resistance.

The film is being directed by Matt Reeves (Let Me In) and is currently targeting a spring shoot for its May 23, 2014 release. [Deadline]
