The polls are closed and the our live blog of the 2013 Oscars is about to begin in just a few short hours (3:30 PST to be exact), but before we do that I felt it was best to set up a little 2013 Oscar prediction scorecard so we know where everyone stands and where we’re most likely to find the most action tonight as the awards are handed out.
First there’s Best Supporting Actor where Laremy, myself and the readers all disagree, which tells me we should probably expect Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln) to win, just to prove us all wrong. The readers and Laremy agree Quentin Tarantino will win Best Original Screenplay for Django Unchained while I have Michael Haneke winning for Amour, and then we come to the four categories where Laremy differs from both myself and the readers.
Laremy has different winners for both documentary categories with The Gatekeepers beating the overwhelming favorite Searching for Sugar Man for Best Documentary and Open Heart winning for Best Documentary (Short). While he’s taking a chance on Gatekeepers, Open Heart is seen by many to be the favorite in the category with Innocente running a close second.
He also went with Zero Dark Thirty for Film Editing over Argo and Skyfall for Sound Editing while the readers and myself went with Life of Pi. This, my friends, is why we play the game and what makes the Oscars fun. Who will be right? Who will be wrong? All will be revealed shortly and hopefully you’ll join us for the live blog beginning at 3:30 PM PST and carrying on throughout the night with live winners, commentary and overall merriment.
I have published all the results below and highlighted the more interesting races and predictions. You can click here to see the results of each individual poll and how close the races were. I’m telling you, just look at the results for Best Supporting Actor. Can’t wait until that Oscar is handed out and we won’t have to wait long… IT’S THE FIRST ONE!
