1.) Universal chairman Adam Fogelson sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about what the company had on deck. Plans still include a Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation, though they aren’t going to force it into production, but rather plan appropriately because he doesn’t “believe the second or third film would have benefited from that strategy.” Snow White and the Huntsman 2 is still in the works and it will focus on both Kristen Stewart‘s Snow and Chris Hemsworth‘s Huntsman, though director Rupert Sanders is not expected to return.
He then mentioned a possible Bourne 5 and said:
“The point of the last movie was to create a universe, a world and characters that give us a lot of freedom and flexibility in how we go forward. Yeah, [The Bourne Legacy] didn’t perform the way [The Bourne Ultimatum] did. It also didn’t cost what [The Bourne Ultimatum] did. It performed more along the lines of how the first one did. I absolutely see us doing more Bourne, 100 percent yes. Matt [Damon] has talked about the possibility of coming back, and we totally respect that and are excited if and when he wants to have conversations. But I think the last movie gave us a big bunch of options to pursue a next chapter.”
In addition to all that, an adaptation of Wicked will be happening “sooner rather than later” and an Identity Thief sequel is already being discussed.
2.) Remember that steampunk, animated movie 9 that didn’t end up doing all that well despite some impressive visuals? Well, 9 writer/director Shane Acker is finally gearing up for another movie. The film is Beasts of Burden, based on Evan Dorkin’s comic series, which takes place in a town whose local dogs keep watch and protect citizens from supernatural dangers. [Variety]
3.) Netflix is looking stronger after “House of Cards” and now the return of “Arrested Development” is on the way and Kristen Wiig and Seth Rogen have joined the cast. Rogen’s role has not yet been revealed, but Wiig will play a younger Lucille Bluth, to Jessica Walter‘s present day version. All 13 new episodes of the show will arrive in May in one big lump, just as did “House of Cards”. [US Weekly / Vulture]
4.) Aksel Hennie (Headhunters) has joined the cast of Brett Ratner‘s Hercules and will play Tydeus opposite Dwayne Johnson who plays the title character in the adaptation of the Radical Studios graphic novel “Hercules: The Thracian Wars”. The film shoots later this year for an August 8, 2014 release. [THR]
5.) Finally, a group calling themselves CinemaSins has been busy lately pointing out all the things wrong with all your favorite movies, the latest target is Christopher Nolan‘s Inception. I love the film and already know enough plot holes so I’m not watching, but if you’re interested… have at it. [via Slashfilm]
