UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter has a quote from Zack Snyder’s representatives saying, “While he is super flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars. He is currently in post on his two films, Man of Steel and 300: Battle of Artemisia.”
Of course, the only problem with this quote is that the story isn’t related to the “new Star Wars“, it’s an entirely different Star Wars. Maybe it’s a deflection, maybe the story is true. We’ll soon see I’m sure.

This news has nothing to do with the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, which is still without a director, but is being written by Michael Arndt (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) for a 2015 release. Instead, Vulture is reporting Zack Snyder may be looking to follow-up Man of Steel with a film set in the Star Wars universe, but outside the upcoming trilogy.
The site reports the film is said to be influenced by Akira Kurosawa‘s Seven Samurai, which is to assume a group of Jedi will be called upon to protect a small village of far away galaxy farmers from a group of intergalactic bandits.
Expectation is the film will not be inside the numbered “saga”, but instead run parallel to the upcoming trilogy and within the same galaxy, which would surely make for some sort of cameo at one point or another.
There is no word on whether Snyder will simply develop the project or take directorial reins, but it is expected to go into production following Star Wars: Episode VII, which would seem to suggest they may be looking at a 2016 release should everything work out.
