2013 Directors Guild Nominees Award Affleck, Bigelow, Hooper, Lee and Spielberg

The Directors Guild have announced their 2013 nominees for the Directors Guild Awards and as it stands, their nominees match up exactly with my current list of predicted Oscar nominees for Best Director. Those nominees are Ben Affleck (Argo), Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty), Tom Hooper (Les Misérables), Ang Lee (Life of Pi) and Steven Spielberg (Lincoln).

The two names that will likely be looked at as potential upsets at the Oscars are David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook) and Quentin Tarantino (Django Unchained) with Hooper and Lee the most likely to fall out of the top five. As for my predictions I am getting closer and closer to moving Russell in over Hooper, but I just don’t think Tarantino is going to be able to edge out Ang Lee.

Seems like it would be impossible for not one director from this year’s Weinstein stable to get a Best Director nomination doesn’t it? Especially with Tarantino, Russell and Paul Thomas Anderson as the candidates.

Here, again, are the nominees. The 65th Annual DGA Awards will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013

  • Ben Affleck (Argo)
  • Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty)
  • Tom Hooper (Les Misérables)
  • Ang Lee (Life of Pi)
  • Steven Spielberg (Lincoln)
