1.) Three young actresses are vying for the lead in Disney’s new live-action version of Cinderella from director Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go). Saoirse Ronan (Hanna, The Lovely Bones) is the most recognizable of the bunch, and her star should only continue to rise with her upcoming role in the adaptation of Stephanie Meyer‘s The Host. Ronan also recently scored a role in Wes Anderson‘s next film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, so her biggest hurdle in landing the part might be her busy schedule.
Alicia Vikander (Anna Karenina) and Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers) are also in the mix, while you might recall Wilde as one of the many young actresses Variety’s Jeff Sneider]
2.) Seth MacFarlane recently visited UCLA and while talking with the students (via /Film) said a “Family Guy” movie is “just a matter of when,” confirming he already has a plan in place for the film.
We do know what the “Family Guy” movie will be. “The Simpsons” movie, I thought, was hilarious, but the one criticism I would have is that it’s a story they probably could’ve done on TV. There could’ve been an episode that had that plotline. That’s the challenge with animation. You pretty much can do any story you want, so what is the reason for the movie? We finally hit on the answer to that question, and it will be something that would be impossible to do on TV.
3.) Writer/director Christopher McQuarrie talked about a bunch of his upcoming/rumored projects. McQuarrie confirmed he is attached to write (but not direct) Without Remorse, which would center on John Kelly, a darker rival to Tom Clancy‘s more well-known Jack Ryan character. He’ll start work on the script as soon as he finishes the publicity tour for Jack Reacher. Tom Hardy‘s name has been thrown around in regards to the Kelly role.
McQuarrie also confirmed completing a script for a John Wilkes Booth biopic he’s just “waiting for somebody with the balls to make.” And lastly, he touched on Mission: Impossible 5, seeming to take the safe route by saying “we’ve just started talking about it.” [Dark Horizons]
4.) While we’re still waiting for some kind of director attachment to the much talked about Justice League movie, one site is reporting having learned who the film’s main villain will be. That villain is Darkseid, who possesses God-like powers and leads a planet called Apokolips. Seems formidable enough, but since I know nothing else about the character I better just leave it at that. 5.) For a while now, Disney has been referring to director Pete Docter‘s next film as “The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside The Mind.” Well, now it seems we have an actual title for the third film from the director of Monsters Inc. and Up as a source at Bleeding Cool hears it will be called The Inside Out. We don’t know much about the plot, but John Lasseter had this to say about the project back in June:
The emotions of this little girl are the characters and it takes place in the head of this little girl, and shows how they control things that go on.
I hope you took more away from that description than I did, because if not, I’m not sure why I even bothered typing it.
