Anne Hathaway gives one of the best musical performances I have seen on film with her rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” in Les Miserables. I say this as someone not entirely versed in musicals, but also as someone that easily recognized the power behind her performance and the emotion that exudes from it. However, Universal is rightly keeping that clip under lock and key so it can be experienced by audiences in theaters, but they are giving you a taste of the second best musical performance in the film, that being Samantha Barks.
Barks plays Éponine, a role she first played on the London stage production of Les Misérables for a year spanning June 2010 to June 2011 and her performance singing “On My Own” was likely a showstopper on stage just as much as it is in the filmed adaptation and you can get a taste of it below.
Les Miserables hits theaters on December 25.
