Only recently did I finally see V/H/S, a horror film fans of the genre need to be sure and see. The story revolves around a group of guys hired to retrieve a videotape from a rundown house in the middle of nowhere. When they get there they find several along with a dead body plopped in front of several televisions. In their search for the tape they are looking for they begin watching several of the tapes strewn about and while the story of their search plays out a series of horrific videos take center stage.
Like any found footage feature, the questions of “Why are they still recording this?” comes up, and perhaps more often than most would like, but V/H/S was highly effective and not at all what I expected. I expected a series of snuff films (a la Hostel) and to me that didn’t sound too interesting. But, in fact, what you get is a series of short horror films that are all rather inventive. My only complaint is that all of them are too long, but overall they really work.
Now, a sequel is already underway and the first image (as you see above) has been revealed from the segment co-directed by The Raid helmer Gareth Evans and Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre). Why someone soaked in blood with something carved into their torso would seem to be so happy is beyond me, but I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough.
Additional segments in the feature are being directed by Jason Eisener (Hobo With a Shotgun), Adam Wingard (You’re Next) and Simon Barrett as well as Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project) co-directing with his long time producer Greg Hale.
The film was originally going to be titled V/H/S 2, but Twitch (who provided the image) reveal it will now be titled S-VHS.
