‘Mission: Impossible 5’ May Have a Director

Christopher McQuarrie has found his name rising in stature over the past several years. From writing The Usual Suspects to becoming the go-to guy for Tom Cruise he has since written Valkyrie, which starred Cruise and was directed by Bryan Singer, to making his directorial debut on Jack Reacher, which also stars Cruise and will hit theaters this December on top of writing the sci-fi feature All You Need is Kill, which Cruise is starring in for director Doug Liman. Well, guess what, the Cruise-McQuarrie connection may be continuing.

Deadline reports McQuarrie is the choice to helm Mission: Impossible 5 for Paramount as he’s the guy Cruise and JJ Abrams want. The site does add that writers will be hired before making anything official.

M:I 5 is being looked at as a top priority for Paramount following the success of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which grossed just under $700 million worldwide.

It will be interesting to see when and if the decision to go with McQuarrie is made official. It’s the kind of news that could help spark additional interest in Jack Reacher, which opens December 21, prompting some viewers to become more interested in the film that could be loosely tied to more Mission: Impossible.

As far as trying to decide whether McQuarrie feels like a right choice we don’t have much to go on, but here is the trailer for Jack Reacher if you haven’t yet given it a look.
