I don’t know anything about Cassandra Clare’s young adult fantasy books, but I do know The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is the first in the film series and Screen Gems is hoping it will have some sort of The Hunger Games, Twilight and/or Harry Potter appeal as YA franchises are all the rage at the moment.
Today the first picture of Lily Collins (Mirror, Mirror) has arrived as she plays Clary Fray, a descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.
Directed by Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) and co-starring Jaime Campbell Bower, Robert Sheehan, Jemima West, Kevin Segers, Kevin Durand, Robert Maillet, Lena Headey, Jared Harris, Godfrey Gao, Aidan Turner, CCH Pounder and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the film will arrive in theaters on August 23, 2013.
A trailer for the film will be online tomorrow, November 15.
