A Deadite Awakes in First Look at the ‘Evil Dead’ Remake

Yup, another first look and another remake as all the new goodies are being released for next year’s horror films, at least those lacking the desire to come up with something of a new story. Apparently there is only enough room for a select few horror films based on original ideas… Congrats Scott Derrickson and Sinister.

This time it’s a look at Evil Dead, a remake approved and produced by original helmer Sam Raimi alongside the star of the original franchise, Bruce Campbell, though he apparently doesn’t make an appearance.

First time feature director Fede Alvarez is directing after gaining attention in 2009 for his short film Panic Attack! and the cast includes Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, Shiloh Fernandez and Jane Levy who’s pictured above as one of the film’s basement-dwelling Deadites.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Often imitated, never equaled. Evil Dead was the horror movie that started it all. Now, after 30 years, Raimi and the original creators are passing the reins of their beloved classic to Alvarez. In this retelling, five friends hole up at a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead. A demonic force is unleashed possessing each until only one is left to fight for survival.

The film is set to hit theaters on April 13, 2013.
