1.) This here is your first look at Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney (Jack Reacher, “Spartacus”) in A Good Day to Die Hard. Courtney, who plays John McClane’s son Jack, offered the following quote on the unlikely partnership. “The relationship isn’t always functional. These are two guys who have been estranged for some time. John likes to wing it, see what happens. Jack’s more of a strategist.” The film hits theaters on February 14, 2013. [EW]
2.) Gael Garcia Bernal is in talks to join Matthew McConaughey in The Dallas Buyer’s Club, otherwise known as “that movie McConaughey lost all that weight for.” The film is inspired by the true story of Ron Woodroof (McConaughey), a Texas electrician diagnosed with AIDS who began smuggling alternative drugs into the U.S. to help himself and other AIDS patients. Bernal would play one of those other AIDS patients.
Hilary Swank was also attached to co-star, but recently dropped out. I’m sure a replacement will be named soon, as director Jean-Marc Vallee (The Young Victoria) is aiming for a November start date. And I’m sure McConaughey would like to get it over with so he can start eating again. [THR]
3.) The Hangover Part III has turned Nogales, Arizona into Tijuana, Mexico, with both Before the Trailer and On Location Vacation offering looks at the set.
4.) Following the success of The School of Rock and Bernie, it sounds like Jack Black and Richard Linklater are about to collaborate again. “It’s about a guy who gives up everything to be a professional bowler,” Black said of the new project. Without dropping any names, Black admitted the story was inspired by a real-life bowler, though all logic points to Pete Weber. The controversial and animated PBA Champion has endured a tumultuous personal life that has included several divorces and was at one point suspended from the tour because of a drinking problem. [L.A. Times]
Linklater also mentioned that he hopes to take Before Midnight to a festival in early 2013. The Berlin Film Festival takes place in February, and considering both Before Sunrise and Before Sunset debuted there, that sounds like a good possibility. [L.A. Times]
5.) Finally, and this is a few days old, but Tom Cruise‘s new film All You Need is Kill is set to open on March 14, 2014 where it will face off against Angelina Jolie‘s Maleficent and Dreamworks’ CGI/hand-drawn animated movie Me and My Shadow. Who’ve you got in this fight, Cruise, Jolie or Cartoons?
Here’s the synopsis for All You Need is Kill, which will be directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) and co-stars Emily Blunt, Charlotte Riley and Bill Paxton:
Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped into combat. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an alpha alien down with him. But he awakens back at the beginning of the same day and is forced to fight and die again…and again – as physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop.
