I’ve already Looper costumer Sharen Davis who talks about the inspiration for the film’s look saying:
The Loopers’ style is a fusion of the late 1940s and 1960s. Young Joe’s (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) ‘Ike’ (Eisenhower) style kid leather jacket, high waisted straight pants and thin ties made of vintage silk – all were custom. Designing Looper started with Young Joe’s character, then giving all the Looper gang similar looks. Older Joe (Bruce Willis) goes full circle, slightly resembling Young Joe.
Get the full interview and another look at one of Davis’ sketches here. The site also has an interview with Piper Perabo talking about her look as, what Davis calls, a “futuristic saloon dancer, combining the late 1800s with the 1980s.”
Now we come to news that the Screen Actors Guild has determined independent feature Beasts of the Southern Wild is ineligible for the Screen Actors Guild awards because it was not made under the terms of SAG Low Budget Feature Agreement, which mandates the use of professional actors. What does this mean when it comes to the film’s Oscar chances? I can’t say it doesn’t hurt, but I think I can definitely say it doesn’t help. Nevertheless, I still think Quvenzhané Wallis is getting a nomination. [THR]
Steve Pond from The Wrap makes an interesting observation on Twitter regarding Seth MacFarlane being named Oscar host: “Oscar tidbit: Seth McFarlane will be the first person since Ellen DeGeneres in 2007 to make his first Oscar appearance as host.” Considering DeGeneres’s turn as host is probably, no lie, my personal favorite this news bodes well for my enjoyment.
Matt Damon, David O. Russell and philanthropist and social entrepreneur Jeff Skoll will be presented with career tributes at the 22nd Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards on Monday, November 26 at Cipriani Wall Street, in New York City. This will be Russell’s second honor of the year already as he will also be given the “Hollywood Director Award” at the Hollywood Awards on October 22.
Finally, Anne Hathaway (AKA my current pick to win Best Supporting Actress), will be performing at a one-night-only benefit concert October 24, titled Perfectly Marvelous: The Songs of ‘Cabaret’ with Anne Hathaway and Friends. Hmmmm, that should get the awards campaigning leading up to her Les Miserables debut off to a good start. [THR]
