Universal has got to be loving all the attention Les Miserables is receiving considering it doesn’t yet have a film festival release date or a fancy premiere and is just basking in the continuing glow of new posters, extended featurettes and now a new extended TV spot to keep the chatter alive until they announce what special venue will play home to its coming out party.
Based on Victor Hugo’s epic tale, the story is set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, in which Hugh Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Russell Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Anne Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.
The film isn’t set to hit theaters until December 25, but you can be sure critics will be seeing it before then as the Oscar race continues to heat up.
