The January 18, 2013 release date for Broken City is a curious one considering the cast includes Russell Crowe, Mark Wahlberg, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Barry Pepper with Allen Hughes (The Book of Eli) directing. Cast like that suggests something better than a film best suited for the dumping grounds of the release schedule, but maybe Fox is trying to test the waters and turn January into the new March.
In the film Wahlberg plays an ex-cop-turned-private detective who is hired by the mayor (Crowe) to see if his wife is cheating on him. The private eye confirms those suspicions, and when the mayor’s wife’s cheating partner ends up dead, the private eye immerses himself in the mayor’s business and uncovers a major conspiracy.
