Paul Thomas Anderson‘s The Master is having its Gala screening tonight here in Toronto and will be playing for press tomorrow morning. I won’t be seeing it until the morning of the 10th as I’ll be watching The Place Beyond the Pines tomorrow. I know a few people will be heading into tonight’s screening, however, and I’m sure we’ll be met with some new thoughts on the film shortly.
In the meantime, we have a new not safe for work clip from the film featuring Joaquin Phoenix as Freddie Quell. In the clip he’s seen taking part in an inkblot test during a Navy psych evaluation. We don’t get to see the inkblots he’s looking at, but he certainly paints a graphic picture.
Freddie is a Naval veteran who arrives home from war unsettled and uncertain of his future – until he is tantalized by The Cause and its charismatic leader (Philip Seymour Hoffman). The Master will be released in limited theaters on September 14 and expand nationwide the following weekend.
Check out the new clip below.
