First Look at Eastwood, Timberlake and Adams in ‘Trouble with the Curve’

One film I felt could have very easily ended up on the slate of titles at the Toronto Film Festival was Robert Lorenz‘s directorial debut Trouble with the Curve featuring Clint Eastwood as Gus, an aging Atlanta Braves scout with vision problems whose daughter, Mickey (Amy Adams), reluctantly agrees to be his eyes on a crucial recruiting trip. Above is the first picture released from the film, which is set to hit theaters on September 28.

The film co-stars Matthew Lillard, John Goodman, Scott Eastwood and Justin Timberlake who plays Johnny, a rival young scout who happens to like and respect Gus.

Lorenz is Eastwood’s longtime Malpaso producing partner and he was somehow able to get him in front of the camera without being behind the camera as well for the first time in almost 20 years, the last time being 1993’s In the Line of Fire for Wolfgang Petersen.

If history tells us anything, the debut of this picture tonight means a trailer is likely to be arriving tomorrow. Stay tuned, once it hits I’ll have it for you, but in the meantime… What does your gut tell you about the film’s Oscar prospects?

The last time Eastwood was nominated for an acting Oscar was 2005’s Million Dollar Baby and considering we all thought Gran Torino would be his acting swan song, does his decision to step in front of the camera once more give him an Oscar advantage? And what about Adams? She’s been nominated twice in the last three years and three times altogether without winning.

I also wonder if John Goodman‘s part, playing Pete Klein, Gus’ boss in the Braves clubhouse, who urges Mickey to help her father, will be big enough to earn him some attention. I just have this feeling Goodman is going to do something special some time soon.
