Comments: I’m not going to comment on any of these images. Instead, hit play on the player to the right and just listen to Thomas Newman‘s excellent score while you browse through the following 13 screen captures from one hell of a beautiful movie. Hall actually won the Oscar for Best Cinematography for this one and it’s quite obvious why.

I’d also like to note, this edition was in collaboration with Nathaniel over at Film Experience where he has a similar feature he titles “Hit Me With Your Best Shot“. His feature is a little different in that he asks people to contribute the one single best shot from the film he focuses on, but nevertheless his feature has always been a favorite of mine and I’m glad he and I were able to come together on Road to Perdition and we plan on doing so more often in the future.

As for trying to pick one single shot I like more than the rest, damn, that’s tough. I love the mirror. I love the second to last shot below and the breadth of feelings and emotions it brings out. Father and son at the bar, the gun in the run, the shadow on the floor, kneeling before the candles, the profile of a young boy in the shadows… Seriously, how do you pick just one?
