Friday Box-Office: ‘Spider-Man’ Stays On Top While ‘Savages’ Limps into Top Five

You won’t believe it, but The Amazing Spider-Man was #1 at the Friday box-office with $20.7 million and for those of you that responded to my question on Wednesday asking how much would the film make in its first six days it looks like those of you that were in the $140 million range will be closest.

Meanwhile, in the case of the weekend’s other two new wide releases, Oliver Stone‘s Savages, which was originally set for a September release date, isn’t exactly packing theaters and when they do show up they aren’t leaving all that impressed. Opening in 2,628 theaters, Savages pulled in $5.6 million on Friday and audiences in attendance gave it a problematic “C+” CinemaScore, which doesn’t bode well for word of mouth. At this point I’d say we’re looking at a $13 million ceiling for the weekend.

Even farther down the list is the latest 3-D concert experience, Katy Perry: Part of Me, which looks like it will end the weekend around $8 million after $2.7 million on Friday. I’m not sure what to think of this. Is Katy Perry supposedly in high demand? She’s certainly no Justin Bieber, whose own 3-D film pulled in $29.5 million on its opening weekend last February. Before that, Miley Cyrus‘s concert feature pulled in $31.1 million back in 2008. I guess there’s an age ceiling on what kind of pop star can go the 3-D concert route.

I have included the Friday top ten directly below and I’ll be back tomorrow morning with a complete weekend wrap-up and we’ll see just what exactly that full six-day opening for Spider-Man looks like.
