9 Great Posters for 9 Not-So-Great Movies (That I Haven’t Seen)

Captivity

Back in 2007, After Dark found themselves in a unapproved billboards that went up featuring some torturous images along with words such as “Abduction,” “Confinement,” “Torture” and “Termination.” As a result, the MPAA issued a statement saying:

The action comes in response to After Darks’ prominent display in both Los Angeles and New York of advertising that the MPAA had explicitly disapproved as inappropriate for general public viewing. The production company and its distributors will also be required to clear not only all promotional materials but also the locations and venues of all advertising buys relating to the film, marking the first time that sanction has been imposed by the MPAA.

As for the poster above, I think it’s a solid piece of marketing, though I am unsure whether it represents the film appropriately or what. As for the film, it ultimately made $2.6 million domestically and $10.9m worldwide. I can’t imagine it cost much to make and it didn’t exactly hurt or help the careers of anyone involved… What’s even crazier, to me at least, is this clear attempt to take advantage of the “torture porn” industry back in its heyday was directed by Roland Joffe, the Oscar-nominated director of The Mission and The Killing Fields and it looks like he’s trying to beat Roland Emmerich to the punch with his own new film titled Singularity due to hit theaters next year.

The Rules of Attraction

In truth, I actually think I’ve seen portions of this film and I vaguely remember turning it off and never returning to it several years ago. That said, this poster is great and always has been. Of the bunch David sent to me, this, Captivity and Attack of the 50 Foot Woman were the most obvious choices in my book.
