Trailer and Poster for Aptly Named Bob Marley Documentary, ‘Marley’

Kevin Macdonald is probably best known by the masses at the moment for The Last King of Scotland, though since then he has made State of Play, The Eagle and Life in a Day to name a few. He has, however, won an Oscar for Best Documentary in the past with the Black Septemberist doc One Day in September and his 2003 documentary Touching the Void was also well received.

This year he delivers the Bob Marley documentary, Marley, which is currently playing the Berlin Film Festival where I’ve already heard it has a good shot at becoming an Oscar contender next year. It will follow that up with its North American premiere at SXSW, after which Magnolia will release it theatrically and on VOD on Friday, April 20. Today I have or you a first look at the poster as well as eight other images from the doc as well as an international trailer, which is featured directly below.

The synopsis for the feature reads as such:

Bob Marley’s universal appeal, impact on music history and role as a social and political prophet is both unique and unparalleled. MARLEY is the definitive life story of the musician, revolutionary, and legend, from his early days to his rise to international superstardom. Made with the support of the Marley family, the film features rare footage, incredible performances and revelatory interviews with the people that knew him best.

From Academy Award-winning director Kevin Macdonald (One Day In September, The Last King of Scotland) comes the story of a towering figure of musical history, whose music and message has transcended different cultures, languages and creeds to resonate around the world today as powerfully as when he was alive.
