New Look at Martin Freeman as Bilbo in ‘The Hobbit’

The first trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey debuts tomorrow night (Tuesday, December 20) at 7PM PST. As luck would have it, I will be in the theater checking out Joe Carnahan’s The Grey so I won’t be able to post it here on RopeofSilicon until I get back, but hopefully you’ll be sure to come over and leave your thoughts on it once I do.

However, I am able to share this new photo of Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, which debuted on the film’s Facebook page earlier today.

Along with Freeman, in the background of the image you can see James Nesbitt as Bofur, Stephen Hunter as Bombur, Graham McTavish as Dwalin, William Kircher as Bifur and Jed Brophy as Nori. You can check out a larger look at the pic along with 18 other images in my gallery for the film right here.

As I’m sure you’re all aware, The Hobbit follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen), Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild (Richard Armitage). Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Joining those mentioned above are Cate Blanchett, Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis, Ian Holm, Hugo Weaving, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, John Callen, Stephen Fry, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Lee Pace, Mikael Persbrandt, Aidan Turner, Luke Evans, Evangeline Lilly, Barry Humphries and Benedict Cumberbatch.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters on December 14, 2012 with the sequel, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, arriving a year later on December 13, 2013
