2012 Golden Globe Nomination Predictions

I’m just sitting here, completely oblivious to the fact I haven’t offered up a complete batch of Golden Globe nomination predictions. Nevermind the fact Gerard Butler, Woody Harrelson, Rashida Jones and Sofia Vergara will be announcing the nominees tomorrow morning around 5:30 AM PST during “The Today Show” and I will be rising from my sound slumber in the wee hours of the Pacific Time Zone morning to make sure I have them online, evaluated and criticized.

So, I popped the categories into the text editor, added some HTML markup and began tinkering. Perception with the Globes is that they like to make sure all the celebs are covered and will be in attendance. This would seem to have been in full force last year when Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie enjoyed nominations for The Tourist, much to everyone’s surprise. Will they do the same thing again?

Am I wrong for not including Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in my Actor (Comedy) predictions? Would the HFPA find a way to nominate Madonna‘s W.E.? I found a way to get Jolie among the nominees and I had to go against everything I know about what it means for a film to be a comedy and/or musical to add My Week with Marilyn three times among the nominees.

To be honest, I have no idea if these are right and I have little confidence in my predictions, but it’s the best I could do given what I know and expect from the HFPA. One thing is for certain, of all the award shows this year I truly can’t wait for the Golden Globes as Ricky Gervais returns to host for a third time when the Globes are televised on January 15, 2012.

So, without letting any further time pass before I offer up my thoughts, here are my predictions in all but Best Original Song (because who the hell knows outside of a Muppet nom or two).
