With a May 17, 2013 release date set and a script ready for the making, J.J. Abrams is beginning to cast Star Trek 2, which is expected to return Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban to the USS Enterprise, but what names will be new to the franchise?
There have already been Men in Black III.
Eve’s character is said to be new to the Star Trek canon and she reportedly beat out Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four) and Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger) for the role, the latter of which actually beat out Eve for her Captain America role.
While the report says the character could be new to the franchise, it wouldn’t surprise me if Eve ended up playing the character of Yeoman Janice Rand, which was played by Grace Lee (pictured above, left) in the original “Star Trek” series and has already been rumored as a possibility for the sequel.
Either way, Star Trek 2 is expected to start production in early 2012 for that May 2013 release when it will hit theaters in 3D.
