I’m sure you all remember Ricky Gervais‘ excellent hosting of the Golden Globes last year where he ripped virtually everyone in the room on top of taking aim at one of the Globes’ top nominated films, The Tourist, a generally agreed upon poor film that still managed three nominations including one each for stars Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie as well as one for Best Comedy/Musical. Gervais’ jokes went a little something like this:
“It was a big year for 3D movies. Toy Story, Despicable Me, Tron. It seemed like everything this year was three-dimensional. Except the characters in The Tourist. I already feel bad about that joke. I tell you what, I’m jumping on the bandwagon, because I haven’t even seen The Tourist. Who has? But it must be good because it’s nominated, so shut up, OK? And I’d like to crush this ridiculous rumor that the only reason The Tourist was nominated was so that the foreign press of could hang out with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. That was not the only reason; they also accepted bribes.”
Well, it seemed Depp didn’t necessarily hold a grudge as earlier this month he and Gervais stuffed Warwick Davis (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2) in a toilet with Gervais tweeting, “To protect Warwick from scary mice, me and Johnny Depp put him safely in the toilet. Anything for a friend.”
However, today Depp showed he’s still holding a bit of a grudge… sarcastically so of course.
