New ‘Mission: Impossible 4’ Poster is a Group Photo Op

This morning the movie blogosphere was talking about comments in the pages of Empire magazine‘s latest issue in which Tom Cruise discusses his new role in One Shot, an adaptation of Lee Child‘s novel.

In the film Cruise plays Jack Reacher, a 6’5″ former military policeman-turned-drifter who investigates a case in which a lone sniper murders five victims before being captured and discovers it’s more than a simple open-and-shut case.

The specifics of the character were a cause of concern for fans of the book, concerns Cruise hopes to have put to rest saying, “Firstly, I’m very sensitive to it… This is Lee’s book and Lee’s character. Him giving me his blessing is what made me do it. If he hadn’t then I wouldn’t have done it.”

As for the height issue (Cruise is 5’7″) Cruise added, “Lee told me that the reason he wrote him that size is because that was just one element to his character, and that opened the door to me playing him.”

One Shot, though, is still a ways off, not arriving in theaters until February 8, 2013. Hitting theaters in just a few months, however, is Cruise’s reprisal of Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, directed by Brad Bird and hitting theaters on December 16.

M:I 4 has actually made headlines lately as it will host the prologue to Warner’s The Dark Knight Rises, a six-minute introduction to the film that will be seen only on IMAX screens showing M:I 4 in 70mm, but for more information on that click here. Right now I’m here to talk about the new poster for the film, which just debuted on Yahoo and is featured directly below.

The poster features Hunt and his team, which includes (from left) Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Paula Patton. The film also co-stars Vladimir Mashkov, Michael Nyqvist, Josh Holloway, Simon Pegg, Lea Seydoux and Anil Kapoor.
