First Oscar Scripts: ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy,’ ‘Hanna,’ ‘Jane Eyre’ and More

As I have done for the past few years, once again it is time to begin tracking Oscar contending screenplays as the studios begin making them available. To kick things off Focus Features is the first out of the gates and they aren’t messing around, offering up six screenplays, two of which I think have a shot at a nomination and a third I’m not quite sure of yet though I have heard good things.

Among the six we have Bridget O’Connor and Peter Straughan‘s screenplay for the John le Carre adaptation Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy which is set to hit theaters here in the States on December 9, though it has already opened overseas where it’s already brought in $19.5 million in the UK according to Box-Office Mojo.

A second screenplay I will be featuring on my Best Original Screenplay predictions tomorrow is Mike Mills‘ screenplay for Beginners. After the Gotham Independent Awards nominated the film in Best Picture and Ensemble I get the feeling this may be the one early year film that isn’t overlooked while a film like Tom McCarthy’s Win Win just might.

Additionally, I have the script for Pariah written by Dee Rees. This is a film I know very little about but have already heard very good things. It could be a late year surprise and I’m still bummed my schedule at the Toronto International Film Festival this year caused me to miss it. Pariah hits theaters on December 25, for more information click here.

The other three screenplays include Seth Lochhead and David Farr‘s screenplay for Hanna, Moira Buffini‘s adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre and The Debt written by Matthew Vaughn, Jane Goldman and Peter Straughan, adapting the 2007 Israeli film Ha-Hov.

Each can be downloaded below and as you can see on my Oscar predictions page for Best Adapted Screenplay, if I have the screenplay for one of the films I’m predicting a link will be included with that prediction and all of the available scripts for download will be available in the right hand column of my Adapted and Original Screenplay predictions.

So stay tuned as the list will be updating often over the next few months and for now, here are today’s scripts:
