Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay and Alfonso Cuaron Circle New ‘Twilight Zone’ Movie

Well this is an interesting little news nugget as Variety reports Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay and Alfonso Cuaron are circling a new Twilight Zone film for Warner Bros. with Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and David Yates (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1). Obviously, much like the 1983 edition, which featured four segments directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins), John Landis (An American Werewolf in London ), George Miller (The Road Warrior) and Steven Spielberg (Close Encounters of the Third Kind), Warner Bros. is chasing down big name talent, but the difference here will be that this Twilight Zone will not be a multi-director feature, but rather one film from one director.

Variety‘s Justin Kroll reports that Nolan, who’s in the midst of shooting The Dark Knight Rises, is the studio’s obvious number one choice, and why wouldn’t he be? However, it’s unclear as to whether he’ll take the job given the film’s reported similarities to Inception. He also isn’t likely to decide on his next feature until he’s done with The Dark Knight Rises.

As for Bay, his next film is expected to be the smaller budgeted feature Pain and Gain and Cuaron is currently working on his 2012 sci-fi feature Gravity, which tells me we’re either unlikely to hear of a director for this project soon, or we’re going to hear word that it will go to Wyatt or Yates.

Yates, though, was recently named director of a new feature adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Stand” at Warner Bros. with Harry Potter screenwriter Steve Kloves penning the script. Also, who’s to say Wyatt won’t be getting an offer to film a Planet of the Apes sequel some time soon?

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way is producing the feature with Rand Ravich (The Astronaut’s Wife) and Jason Rothenberg (“Body Politic”) penning the script.

Personally, I think it would be a far more interesting feature were they to go with multiple directors. Just imagine the ride you’d be taken on seeing a Twilight Zone film with different segments helmed by the likes of Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay, Alfonso Cuaron and one other. Man, it could be intense given the differences in style between the three. What direction would you like to see them go?
