Something is Beneath the Ice in this Russian Poster for ‘The Thing’?

I don’t remember the specifics of the alien spacecraft from John Carpenter’s The Thing, but I have to admit I like this new Russian poster from KinoGallery (via ComingSoon) for the film as it isn’t determined to sell the alien, but instead offers a more subtle approach to the horror that lies beneath.

I have to also say I am happy to see Universal is not only screening The Thing, but here in Seattle will screen it on a Tuesday rather than a Wednesday, which is a big deal when it comes to daily and weekly newspapers in terms of meeting deadlines. A Wednesday night or later press screening of a new film is often a sign the studio has little confidence and would prefer to not see a critic’s opinion in the paper.

On top of the above poster, yesterday Universal sent out a bunch of YouTube links promoting the film with a bit of a misdirection scare which you can watch here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here.

The Thing is a prequel story to John Carpenter’s 1983 film, which itself was a remake of Howard Hawks and Christian Nyby’s 1951 film The Thing from Another World. It hits theaters on October 14 and stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ulrich Thomsen, Eric Christian Olsen and Trond Espen Seim.
