Clip from ‘Butter’ Hints at the Hillary Clinton Satire

The Weinstein Co. has launched an official/viral site for their upcoming political satire Butter, of which I gave an A to when I saw it in Toronto (read my review here) calling it “a hilarious political satire using a butter sculpting competition in Iowa to poke fun at 2008’s political race between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.”

Along with the site, it also offers a brief clip of Jennifer Garner as Laura Pickler and her speech in the first of two butter carving competitions in the film as she follows up her nemesis, a 10-year-old African American orphan named Destiny (Yara Shahidi), who gives a speech that brings down the house. Hopefully, just those facts alone give you an idea what this film is about, even if Harvey Weinstein is determined to somehow twist this film into a Tea Party satire.

You can see a little of why people may be confused with Garner’s look and delivery reminding some of Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman, but you can’t hide the fact what it’s really about… Obama v. Clinton 2008. It’s no coincidence screenwriter Jason Micallef set the pic in Iowa, it’s not because Iowans worship butter, although there is a bit of fun had at the expense of Midwestern voters.

Butter doesn’t yet have an official release date, but along with Garner and Shahidi, the film co stars Rob Corddry, Ashley Greene, Ty Burrell, Alicia Silverstone, Hugh Jackman and Olivia Wilde. You can check out the clip below and read my Toronto review here.
