Will the Ending of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ be All Visual Effects?

Back in July London based boom operator Frederick Z. Roche posted a message on Twitter claiming there would be “Attack Helicopters in the same design as the Bat Mobile” in The Dark Knight Rises. Since then we’ve seen several set photos and videos featuring some kind of aerial vehicle that does have a similar look as Batman’s Tumbler, but whether or not it’s actually a helicopter of some sort remains to be seen.

Now Roche is at it again (via LatinoReview), this time giving some technical clues related to the film’s secret ending saying:

[The Dark Knight Rises] technical info: The ending sequence is soo secret that only 5 ([including Christopher Nolan]) know it and will be done completely in vfx.

Of course, the bit about a secretive ending is no surprise as Gary Oldman was recently quoted by Contact Music saying:

“Christopher doesn’t want anyone to ruin it and I completely understand that.

“The newer people on the film go to his office to read the script. They sent mine out, but it had to be hand delivered directly to me and nobody else. And the final few pages were missing.

“I went along and talked to Christopher and in person about the ending. Then I locked it away in my head.”

However, the bit about the finale being “done completely in vfx” is rather interesting and something that sounds like a bit of an exaggeration as I’m sure it could have a lot of effects, but perhaps the point here is that it will be shot 100% on a green screen, which wouldn’t be as much of a surprise.

Nevertheless, the speculation continues to run rampant as we anxiously await the film’s July 20, 2012 release date. However, while you wait you could always find out what would have happened had Batman beat up the wrong clown in The Dark Knight. Enjoy…
