New ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ Art Merges Blomkvist and Salander

I’ve seen a few of you commenting on the recent eight minute sizzle reel for David Fincher‘s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo that screened in front of a few screenings of Straw Dogs on Wednesday night. Well, I caught the footage in Toronto and can confirm that the film looks great, pretty much a Zodiac meets Se7en mash-up that should satisfy all Se7en fans as well as the fans of Fincher’s more methodical psychological thriller.

I actually didn’t mind watching this trailer because I have already read Stieg Larsson‘s book and seen the Swedish adaptation so as far as the story goes there should be few surprises, though one difference I did notice was it seems screenwriter Steve Zaillan has changed up the first introduction between Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) and Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) just a bit. Also, Mara is super skinny and it looks like Fincher hasn’t held back when it comes to the character’s exploration of the same sex.

The signature shots are there, Trent Reznor‘s score sounds like it is going to fit the film perfectly and it’s really cool to see Fincher working with his Fight Club cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth once again.

Unfortunately I don’t have the footage to show you, but I do have this new piece of promotional art courtesy of the film’s viral website Mouth-Taped-Shut offering a near Rubin-vase-like construction with Craig’s face cut off by half of Mara’s as the titular character.
