SPOILER: Duncan Jones Reveals ‘Source Code’ Secrets in Production Doodle

One of the most popular articles on the site all year has been my interpretation article for Duncan JonesSource Code. Looking at the stats for the article you can watch as the film was released in theaters, slowly was taken out of theaters, hit video on demand and then DVD and Blu-ray. There is an obvious fascination with interpreting the timeline and the way the whole thing played out and now a new piece of the puzzle surfaces.

When I wrote my piece I included a snippet of an interview I had with Jones, discussing the alternate realities created by the “source code” and now he offers the above image (via Twitter) to further help explain how it all worked. Accompanying the image he writes: “Been rummaging paperwork from [Source Code] and found doodle I did for buddy during production. warning: [Source Code] SPOILER.”

To go along with the image I’ll again offer the quote from my interview:

[Technically] it’s a parallel reality film, but it is also time travel. It’s parallel reality, but the reality we’re going to, we’re going to a past event in that parallel reality. We’re in this world, Vera Farmiga and Jeffrey Wright are sending him to what they think is the last eight minutes of someone’s life, captured in a victim’s brain state, in Shawn Fentress’s brain state, but what they’re actually doing — by the end of the film — is they’re accessing a parallel reality, but still having to travel backwards in it because they’re having to go to this event on the train. Then he is able to create this new reality every time he gets sent to a new “Source Code.”

Couple the quote with the image and it should all come together if it didn’t before. However, what’s even more interesting is the fact audiences even still have their own interpretations.
