There are ‘Star Wars’ Blu-ray Audio Changes, but Do Any of Us Really Care?

UPDATE: Confirmation of the Darth Vader “No!” and new clips from the Blu-ray have surfaced. Click here for the full details.

Two clips have surfaced online that apparently use audio leaked from the forthcoming Star Wars Blu-ray releases. According to Devin Faraci at Badass Digest he has confirmed the two following audio changes to Star Wars and Return of the Jedi along with additional word that the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi will be manipulated with CGI so they will now blink. Thank God!

The first clip is that of Darth Vader now screaming “Nooo!” upon seeing his son, Luke Skywalker, being electrocuted by the Emperor and the second video features an altered “Krayt Dragon cry” (I honestly had no idea that’s what it was called) as used by Obi Wan Kenobi in an effort to scare off the Sand People in Star Wars.

As I said a week ago, if you want George Lucas to stop messing with the Star Wars franchise stop buying it over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. I wonder how many people are going to rush out to buy the complete series on Blu-ray just because it is available and I also wonder how many of those people are going to complain about the alterations shortly after spending upwards of $100 to own all six movies in high definition. Just stop buying them. Even if Lucas never gets the hint, at least you will have saved yourself some money.

In my opinion, the Star Wars saga has, for the most part, been ruined. I never rewatch the movies anymore, as I don’t own a copy of the original trilogy as it was originally released, and the special editions don’t do it for me any longer, though the first film and Empire Strikes Back are still watchable. I’ve tried to watch the prequel trilogy again and can’t seem to get through 15 minutes before I am bored. So what’s the use?

It’s sort of sad to realize I have lost most of the enjoyment I used to get out of a franchise where I owned so many of the toys and would watch on a loop as a kid. I guess it’s probably two parts growing up and one part Lucas’ tinkering, but one thing is for sure… I’ve lost the love.

Here are the clips that are making the rounds using the original scene from the movie combined with the alleged leaked audio from the Blu-ray releases… what do you think? Are you like me and to the point where you just sigh and say, “Who cares?”
