Box-Office Oracle: Another #1 for the ‘The Help’ as It Faces Weak Competition

NOTE: The style for this article has changed and may appear off. If that is the case simply hit “refresh” on your browser and things should look right.

If you and I made a movie in the next few hours we’d have a decent shot of winning this weekend. You game? Still, we owe it to the box office gods to break this thing down … let’s do this thing!

Laremy predicted the #1 movie correctly 4 Weeks In A Row

The Help

$79m on a production budget of $25m. Now I’d like to see the “Critics Matter and Adult Dramas Are Back!!” headlines all over the place in the same manner we saw Transformers nonsense during the summer. Or remember the whole “women are funny!” meme after Bridesmaids? Good times.

Now then, do you see any Academy Award potential here? Viola Davis perhaps? Screenplay? It feels like a weak crowd right now, leaving room for a few summer films to slip on in. Whatever goes down, this film is set up for a big profit as the DVD is going to be a Christmas staple.

Prediction: $14.41 million

The tracking is low, and it’s not a franchise. Tough break, Katie Holmes!
Prediction: $12.6 million
Brad liked it, I liked it too. It needs less than two million people to hit this number, that’s doable. I just hope they didn’t spend too much coin on this.
Prediction: $11.48 million
They are screening it tonight, about four minutes before it comes out. Never a good sign.
Prediction: $10.45 million
$261m on a budget of $93m means we should be golden for a sequel.
Prediction: $8.48 million
The good news is this was the least expensive Spy Kids to produce. The bad news is that it will also be the lowest grossing Spy Kids of the franchise. Is this the end for Spy Kids?
Prediction: $6.75 million
$18m on a $90m budget. That’s some ugly math.
Prediction: $4.7 million
It will need an international push to sniff a profit… theatrically at least.
Prediction: $4 million
This one got destroyed, undeservedly.
Prediction: $4 million
$331m Smurf dollars!
Prediction: $3.98 million

How say you? I’ve got Midnight in Paris finishing twelfth if you’re looking for some trivia. Predictions away for the rest of the new releases!
