Shepard Fairey Redesign’s His Aung San Suu Kyi Poster for ‘The Lady’

Street artist and graphic designer Shepard Fairey became more of a household name his the Barack Obama “Hope” poster which debuted during the 2008 presidential campaign and he’s since continued to make similar pieces of art, one of them for Burmese activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, the central figure in Luc Besson‘s The Lady, of which I posted a trailer for no more than an hour ago.

Considering Fairey designed the poster for the real Suu Kyi, it isn’t too far fetched to think the producers of the film would reach out to him once again to create a similar image for the upcoming film, and he did, and similar it is.

Courtesy of Movie City News we get the following poster for The Lady (right), which I’ve featured side-by-side the Fairey original.

The film centers on Suu Kyi (played by Michelle Yeoh), and the tenacious long-distance bond she maintained with her British husband, Michael Aris (David Thewlis) while under house arrest for over a decade. For more information on the feature, plus to watch the just released teaser click here.
