First Look at the Poster for Gerard Butler’s ‘Machine Gun Preacher’

It was announced this morning that Relativity Media’s Machine Gun Preacher starring Gerard Butler and directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) would be heading to Toronto for its North American debut at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and now IMDb has debuted the first poster from the flick with a name that doesn’t say Oscar, but a plotline that just might:

In this inspirational true story, Machine Gun Preacher is about Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds an unexpected calling as the savior of hundreds of kidnapped and orphaned children. Gerard Butler (300) delivers a searing performance as Childers, the impassioned founder of the Angels of East Africa rescue organization in Golden Globe-nominated director Marc Forster’s (Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland) moving story of violence and redemption.

I was happy to learn I will actually be seeing this film next week in advance of Toronto, which clears up the schedule a little bit, and I can’t wait. Along with Butler the film stars Michelle Monaghan and Michael Shannon and is set for a limited platform release starting September 23 in New York and Los Angeles. We are still waiting for a trailer to debut, but for now here is the poster.
