Laurence Fishburne Set to Play Perry White in Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’

Entertainment Weekly is reporting Laurence Fishburne has joined the cast of Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, Man of Steel, as Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White. Fishburne recently departed his role on “C.S.I.” and as White he’ll play boss to Henry Cavill as Clark Kent (aka Superman) and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

White is described by Wikipedia as an archetypal image of the tough, irascible but fairminded boss. According to comic-book continuity, White was an award-winning journalist who served a term as Mayor of Metropolis. He worked as an assistant editor on the Metropolis Daily Star under George Taylor before becoming editor of the Planet.

In previous live-action portrayals of the character he was played by Jackie Cooper in the four Christopher Reeve-led films, by Frank Langella in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns and by Michael McKean on the television show “Smallville”.

At this point, this cast is shaping up nicely. On top of Cavill and Adams, Fishburne is joined by Diane Lane and Kevin Costner who will play Clark Kent’s Earth parents, Russell Crowe plays Superman’s Kryptonian father Jor-El, Michael Shannon will play the villain General Zod, Antje Traue will play Faora and Harry Lennix will play General Swanwick. The film began production last month and will hit theaters on June 14, 2013.
