Box-Office Oracle: ‘Harry Potter’ Takes On ‘Captain America,’ Which One Comes Out on Top?

As of last Thursday, I thought the streak might be in trouble. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 felt massively front-loaded, which would have allowed Captain America to sneak into first place. However, now that I’ve screened the superhero film I’m far more confident Potter will triumph yet again. Why? Let’s break it down!
Laremy predicted the #1 movie correctly 11 Weeks In A Row
Hey there, Captain America: The First Avenger. This film will be a case study in people saying “Egh, it was fine.” But very few people will evangelize on its behalf, which means you’ll start seeing a slip by Saturday afternoon. The only way to beat Potter was with an awesome film. That’s not nearly the case here.
Prediction: $54.75 million
I’m more positive on this subject. The tracking is around $21m, I’ve bumped it up 10 percent because it’s nice counter-programming.
Prediction: $23.375 million
Brad called it, three R-Rated comedies in the top ten. If I had to rank them, in terms of quality, it would be:
  1. Friends with Benefits
  2. Horrible Bosses
  3. Bad Teacher
Prediction: $12.087 million
It will pass the first film on Friday (domestically) but that $402m number Revenge of the Fallen put up (domestically) looks out of reach.
Prediction: $10.1 million
$63m worldwide on a production budget of $80m means this had to have been a very expensive practical joke.
Prediction: $8.014 million
I really wonder where they spent the $30m. That’s a lotta million.
Prediction: $4.714 million
Doesn’t look like it will crack the top ten of Pixar films domestically. America has spoken!
Prediction: $4.347 million
It’s going to have a theatrical multiplier of 8x production budget. That’s a feat Bridesmaids couldn’t manage.
Prediction: $2.519 million
Even the poster aggravates me at this point.
Prediction: $1.105 million

How say you? Anyone cheeky enough to take Captain America over Potter? And what do you make of Friends with Benefits? Predictions away!
