Gaze at the Effects Work in this Extended Clip from ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’

I’ve Rise of the Planet of the Apes would be considered for a Best Actor nomination. We all generally agreed it was highly unlikely the Academy would be open to considering CG performance-capture work in the acting category, but at the same time we have already marveled at the visual effects work WETA Digital has put in on Serkis as the lead ape in the film, Caesar, and now you get an extended look at that work.

Yahoo! debuted the following clip, which I didn’t watch, but did skim through to get the capture you see above and just looking at still shots from the clip are enough for me to be impressed. As far as the Visual Effects Oscar is concerned I have a hard time believing this one isn’t the front-runner, which may mean Transformers: Dark of the Moon will be the third Transformers film to go home without an effects Oscar. A bit of a surprise if you ask me.

So check out the four-minute clip below and let me know what you think. Rise of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on August 5. For my complete coverage on the film click here.
