Kevin Costner Joins Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’

We are damn near a year-and-a-half away from seeing Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained and with every bit of casting that is announced it only makes me want to see it more and more. Today the newest member of the cast was named as Deadline reports Kevin Costner is in talks to play Ace Woody, the sadistic trainer of the male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of Candyland, the club and ranch owned by Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes.

Jamie Foxx is already aboard as Django, a slave who teams with a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to take on those villains and free his slave wife, Broomhilda. Kerry Washington’s name has been mentioned in association with the role of Broomhilda, but Deadline’s Mike Fleming reports Tarantino may be looking to make a discovery with that role.

As for Costner, this is the second high profile role for the actor as of late as he will also play Jonathan Kent, the father who raised Clark Kent as his own son, in Zack Snyder’s Superman flick Man of Steel, which is due in theaters in December 2012.

The film is expected to begin production at the end of the summer for a December 25, 2012 release.
