‘Green Lantern’ Opens to $3.4 Million from Midnight Screenings

I already wrote Green Lantern, which opened last night at midnight to a reported $3.4 million from 1,180 theaters. This number is higher than the $3.25m Thor brought in and the same amount brought in by X-Men: First Class. Seeing how it is Father’s Day weekend, the fact it is any kind of holiday may entice families to head to the theaters so we could be looking at a slightly higher return than First Class though I’m not sure it will be able to reach the $65.7 million Thor earned on opening weekend, though it is a 3D feature with 2,711 of its 3,816 theaters playing the film in the higher priced format.

Tracking pegs the pic around $58 million and our very own Laremy Legel predicted $54.42 million. We’ll know more on Saturday when I’ll recap the Friday numbers as well as offer a full weekend report on Sunday morning.
