Aronofsky is Courting Christian Bale for Lead in ‘Noah’

A week ago we learned Darren Aronofsky was ready to shop around his Biblical epic Noah, which was described as an “edgy re-telling” of the Noah’s Ark story and apparently carried with it a $130 million budget. At the time I also posted a few previous quotes from the helmer, one in which he said, “Look… It’s the end of the world and it’s the second most famous ship after the Titanic. So I’m not sure why any studio won’t want to make it.” I can tell you one reason a studio wouldn’t want to make it, because he didn’t have a big name actor attached. However, it looks like he’s attempting to remedy that situation.

Today Vulture reports Aronofsky is in talks with Christian Bale (The Dark Knight Rises) for the lead role and they also mention how much it would help secure financial backing for the project. Bale recently starred in The Fighter, a project Aronofsky ended up producing after he was attached to direct for a rather long time.

It’s already been revealed that New Regency is ready to foot half the bill and Paramount, Fox and Summit are all pondering the prospect of stepping in for the other half. Should Aronofsky finally get the money he needs for this project I can’t help but look at it as one hell of a risky project. Personally, I want to see it made simply for that reason, not to mention the fact I’m a big fan of Aronofsky’s work. It would be nice to see a studio take a risk, after all, Warner Bros. took one on Christopher Nolan and Inception and look how that turned out.

For much more on the path this project has taken to the big screen as well as some concept art for a graphic novel based on the script Aronofsky co-wrote with Ari Handel (The Fountain) click here.
