Box-Office Oracle: The X-Men Take on The Wolfpack, Who Will Survive?

You don’t have to be an Oracle to correctly predict the top earner this weekend. Graduating sixth-grade math would probably give you the requisite skills. The only drama is the total number for X-Men: First Class, the holdovers, and the massive per theater films pushing their way into the top ten. It’s on like Grey Poupon, let’s break it down!
Laremy predicted the #1 movie correctly 4 Weeks In A Row
I have it slipping 58 percent in its second weekend based on two films: Sex and the City and Wanted. Both Rated R, both May/June, both with healthy openings. If Hangover Part II does better than this it will be because people wanted a comedy, regardless of the reviews.
Prediction: $36.097 million
There are so many ways to monetize this film that Paramount (Dreamworks) likely won’t need to come anywhere near the normal 3x production budget multiplier. They’ll be fine. What’s more interesting is the continued realism setting in around 3-D. People aren’t anti-3-D. They’re just not sure why they’d pay more for a few effects. The sword comes toward me and I have to wear glasses the whole time? I should pay extra for this?
Prediction: $22.875 million
$641m worldwide on a budget of $250m. Once again, the international dollar saves a big-budget actioner.
Prediction: $20.312 million
Kristen Wiig has to have started a production company by now, right? Where can one submit their resume? I could play the husky non-threatening friend.
Prediction: $12.578 million
6. Thor
Thor cleared $400m worldwide because people were hungry for a big summer type film. The films that follow will have to earn it.
Prediction: $4.339 million
Gaining nearly 100 theaters, and it should win the per theater crown this weekend. Very strong stuff.
Prediction: $3.67 million
When is the last time the fifth film in a franchise made the most cash? The The Phantom Menace sits atop the Star Wars chart, but that’s not adjusted for inflation, and it was the fourth film.
Prediction: $2.77 million
It’s a ponderous film, but enjoyable, and the older demo is likely to support it even with the limited theater counts.
Prediction: $0.8 million
If you’ve got $6.6m laying around you should make yourself one of these. $35m!
Prediction: $0.652 million
