Pair of ‘Captain America’ TV Spots

The Movie Box debuted these two new TV spots for Captain America: The First Avenger and I didn’t actually watch the spots, but I did sneak a peek at the end to see how much they emphasize the fact this one is also being released in 3D and it’s a surprisingly minimal little side note as you can see above. No big “IN 3D” voice over. No big “3D EVENT OF THE YEAR” tagline. Just a little “In theatres, Real D 3D and Digital 3D”. Go to the film’s official website and 3D isn’t even mentioned.

Captain America is a post-converted 3D picture and it almost appears Paramount isn’t quite sure they even wanted to release it in the gimmicky, wallet-busting format and this isn’t even stemming from the recent lackluster response to 3D films such as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Kung Fu Panda 2.

My guess is it is just as unimpressive as previous 2D converted pictures and Paramount is simply attempting to play down the fact it’s yet another one in a long line. What I’m wondering now is how many people will show up to the theaters to buy a ticket only to learn they are paying for a 3D showing and the ticket is going to cost them much more than they anticipated… That won’t be a fun conversation for the box-office employee.

I guess we’ll find out how it all works out when July 22 rolls around. Now, here are those two TV spots I promised you.
