FilmDistrict has released a second clip from Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive, which will be premiering here in Cannes on Thursday night and I absolutely cannot wait.
The film stars Ryan Gosling as Driver, a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver-for-hire in the criminal underworld. He finds himself a target for some of LA’s most dangerous men after agreeing to aid the ex-con boyfriend (Oscar Isaac) of his beautiful neighbor (Carey Mulligan) in a job that goes dangerously awry. The only way he can keep her safe and stay alive is to do what he does best: Drive.
The clip below features the first time Driver meets Irene (Mulligan) as well as an introduction to Bryan Cranston’s character Shannon, Driver’s mentor/manager. For anyone that’s seen any of Winding Refn’s films, be it the Pusher trilogy or Bronson — Valhalla Rising excluded — the music, “A Real Hero” by French dance artist College, ft. Electric Youth (thanks to The Playlist), in the second half of this clip is exactly what you’d expect.
In addition to the clip, I’ve added 14 new images to the gallery. Three of them are featured in the gallery viewer above and you can see the other 11 right here.
Drive is set to hit theaters on September 16, but I’ll have a review for you in the next two days. Stay tuned.
