Apparently Gordon-Levitt is NOT Alberto Falcone in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

I am washing my hands of this particular rumor as Entertainment Weekly is now saying the word over the weekend that Joseph Gordon-Levitt has joined The Dark Knight Rises as Alberto Falcone, the son of Mafia chieftain Carmine Falcone (the character Tom Wilkinson played in Batman Begins) is in fact false. Comma, what?

Of course, the news from EW comes with just as much confirmation as the original Variety article. Variety heard Levitt was Falcone from “insiders” while EW is quoting a “source close to the situation.” What are the chances the “insider” and the “source” are the same person?

This is likely just a stream of disinformation to keep the fans guessing. One way or another I am leaving this rumor alone until someone from the production actually confirms it. You can go ahead and continue the speculation in the comments, though, if you wish.

The Dark Knight Rises is slated to hit theaters on July 20, 2012 with Christian Bale returning along with Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman. Tom Hardy will play the film’s lead villain Bane and Anne Hathaway will play Selina Kyle. Shooting is expected to take place in London and Los Angeles in May.
