Poster Debut for Abrams’s ‘Super 8’

Paramount is making sure the talk of the day is the upcoming J.J. Abrams directed sci-fi throwback Super 8 after debuting the full length trailer this morning at 3 AM and now ending the day with a first look at the poster, which I’ve included directly below.

It’s interesting to see just how much Steven Spielberg’s name is being used to promote this film in the obvious hope people will make comparisons to E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I have no problem with that, but I would have thought something like “From the director of Star Trek” would have done just fine.

The film is set in 1979 and centers on a group of friends in a small Ohio town who witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

Check out the poster directly below, and I included the new trailer above. Super 8 hits theaters on June 10.
