‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’ in 3D is Less than a Year Away

StarWars.com has officially announced their latest attempt to squeeze some additional money out of the ever-loving Star Wars fans is less than a year away as the 3D converted edition of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace will arrive in theaters on February 10, 2012.

The announcement says the conversion was supervised by Industrial Light and Magic with the “utmost respect for the source material, and with a keen eye for both technological considerations and artistic intentions.” I wonder if they will be able to say the same thing when they attempt to convert the original trilogy into 3D… just which source material will they be referring to in that case?

It’s the lack of respect that’s been shown for the first three Star Wars films that puts a damper on this news, not to mention the conversions we’ve seen to date with the likes of Alice in Wonderland, Clash of the Titans, The Last Airbender and The Green Hornet have been far less than impressive.

All that aside, I have to admit there’s, a mild curiosity in seeing how this turns out. You?
